This 89 lb grouper was caught using the most basic fishing gear conceivable- a home-made
carbon fiber fishing spool with 700 meters of monofilament line and a 10 meter wire leader.
When fishing off the beach (surf fishing), George first catches a live baitfish with a small casting
rod and then uses the baitfish's natural instinct to swim to safety in the deeper water
outside the surf to position his "lure". Once a big fish like this is hooked, it can take
2 or 3 hours of careful line-playing to bring the fish onto the beach.
